ERIK NIELSEN TO MAKE MET DEBUT Erik Nielsen will make his debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in December 2010 conducting The Magic Flute. The Frankfurt-based Nielsen often used to deputise in the Met orchestra while still a student at Juilliard, so this is a particularly exciting development for the 33 year-old American conductor. He makes his US opera debut on March 12 this year with Ariadne auf Naxos for Boston Lyric Opera and his UK concert debut the following month with the Northern Sinfonia.
This autumn he has two notable engagements in Germany with the German premiere of Reimann’s new opera Medea, commissioned by the Vienna State Opera, and the Dresden premiere of Henze’s latest stage work Gisela.
