Darren Jeffery

Biography:

Darren Jeffery studied at the Royal Northern College of Music singing the title role in Falstaff and receiving numerous awards, including a Peter Moores Foundation major scholarship and the Curtis Gold Medal.

A former member of the Royal Opera Vilar Young Artists Programme, he made his Covent Garden debut as Sciarrone (Tosca) and subsequent roles for the Royal Opera have included Masetto (Don Giovanni), Monterone (Rigoletto), Mandarin (Turandot), Bartender(Sophie’s Choice, World Premiere), Baron Douphol (La Traviata), Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte), The Bonze (Madama Butterfly), Trulove The Rake's Progress and Johann (Werther).

Engagements elsewhere have included Donner (The Rhinegold) and Speaker (The Magic Flute) for English National Opera, Haly (L’Italiana in Algeri) for Opera de Montpellier, and Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) for The Savoy Opera. Concert appearances include Christus in Bach's St Matthew Passion with Sir Mark Elder and the Halle, Creation wi the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Elijah (BBC Proms & Fishguard Festival), Les Troyens (BBC Proms & Birmingham Symphony Hall), Brander (La Damnation de Faust) with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Allazim (Zaide) for the Lufthansa Festival with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Messiah (Bridgewater Hall & Royal Festival Hall), Verdi’s Requiem (Royal Albert Hall), St. John Passion (York Minster), and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the London Barbican.

Darren Jeffery has performed on BBC Radio 3’s “In Tune” and “Voices” programmes and recently recorded the roles of The Judge (The Thieving Magpie) for Chandos and Pistola (Falstaff) under Sir Colin Davis for the LSO Live label at the London Barbican.

Recent engagements have included Hobson (Peter Grimes) for ENO, Figaro ( Le Nozze di Figaro) with Opera de Montpellier, Theseus (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at Teatro Real, Madrid, Masetto in Rome with Antonio Pappano, and Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at Covent Garden,and future engagements take him back to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Teatro Real in Madrid and to Bologna, Brussels, and Lyon. In 2007 he sang Balducci/Benvenuto Cellini with Sir Colin Davis and the LSO which is available on CD and more recently he has performed Mozart’s Requiem with Davis and the LSO in London and New York, also available on LSO Live.
