Richard Farnes
(Conductors) Biography:
Richard Farnes read Music at King’s College, Cambridge, before going on to study at the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the National Opera Studio. He has quickly established himself as one of the UK’s leading operatic conductors performing regularly with the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera, Birmingham Opera Company and English Touring Opera. His particularly close association with Opera North led to his appointment as the company’s Music Director in 2004. Recent highlights have included Simon Boccanegra for The Royal Opera House, Otello and Jonathan Dove’s Flight for the Glyndebourne Festival and La bohème for Scottish Opera. His first season for Opera North included new productions of Manon and Don Giovanni, as well as concert performances and a recording of Duke Bluebeard’s Castle with John Tomlinson in the title role. Future plans for Opera North include Salome, Hansel and Gretel, La Rondine and Peter Grimes. This biography is for website use only.
