Franz Mazura
(Baritones & Basses) Biography:
Franz Mazura was born in Salzburg and studied in Detmold. Whilst pursuing his musical studies he had regular engagements as an actor in various German theatres. He was a member of the National Theatre in Mannheim from 1964-1987 (and is now an honorary member), and has appeared in all the major German opera houses. He has also appeared regularly at the Salzburg and Bayreuth Festivals. Operatic engagements outside Germany have taken him to Vienna, Milan, Paris, London, Barcelona, Brussels and The Metropolitan Opera, New York. Franz Mazura has a very active concert and oratorio career and has appeared throughout Europe and North America most recently in performances of Gurrelieder with Sir Simon Rattle. His many recordings include Dr Schön in LULU conducted by Pierre Boulez, and Moses in MOSES UND ARON with Solti and the Chicago Symphony for both of which he received Grammy Awards.
