Tecwyn Evans
(Conductors) Biography:

Wolfgang Wurdinger, September 2009 Tecwyn Evans is 1st Kapellmeister and Deputy Chief Conductor of Graz Opera, where he will appear in the 09/10 season. He left New Zealand on a Fulbright Scholarship to study conducting at the University of Kansas. His career in the UK began in 1999 with his appointment as Chorus Master for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, a position he held for four years. He has also worked on the music staff at Opera North and Opera National de Paris and in 2005 was a finalist in the prestigious Leeds' Conducting Competition. He made his debut conducting La Boheme for Glyndebourne in 2000. Other opera work includes Don Giovanni, Die Fledermaus (English Touring Opera), Fidelio, La Boheme, Pelleas et Melisande (Opera Theatre Company), The Rake's Progress, Eugene Onegin (Royal Northern College of Music), Hansel and Gretel (Opera New Zealand), Torsten Rasch's Rotter (Oper Koeln), La Rondine, L'elisir d'amore, Falstaff (Opera North), and Maria Stuarda (Chelsea Opera Group). Tecwyn has appeared in concert with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Orchestra of Opera North, Southern Sinfonia and the BBC Scottish Symphony, Ulster, Welsh Chamber, RNCM Symphony, Salomon, Auckland Philharmonia, Christchurch Symphony and New Zealand Symphony orchestras. He made his debut with the BBC Philharmonic, recording Sibelius’ Pohjola's Daughter and The Oceanides, in 2005 and made his BBC Proms debut, also with the BBC Philharmonic, in 2007. Highlights for the 09/10 season include Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro for Graz Opera and an appearance with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. This biography is for website use only.
